Michael Douglas checks in after chemo, radiation

Michael Douglas, who was diagnosed with Stage 4 throat cancer in August and went through eight weeks of radiation treatments and chemotherapy, touched base with the Hollywood Reporter in an exclusive interview published Tuesday.

Rest easy, concerned fans -- though he’s been keeping out of the public eye, Douglas is described as ‘fully alive, alert, deeply intelligent and in person nothing whatsoever like the haggard figure that graces the National Enquirer and its kin.’

Douglas reveals that he didn’t see his diagnosis as a life-or-death matter, but rather as a disease to get through -- albeit one that has put mortality in perspective.

‘I’m one of those people who, when they’re sick, like to curl up and remove myself,’ he says. ‘I don’t like a lot of people around. There is nothing you can do to help. Catherine [Zeta-Jones] has been understanding, fortunately.’

And yes -- the plans for the trip around the world are still on, once he gets the go-ahead regarding his health. A PET scan in January will show if the tumor is gone, THR says.
