With fall nights in New York and Los Angeles’ Indian summer, plenty of celebs have been out and about lately, working and playing.

Cameron Diaz is making the most of her free time (the actress recently wrapped ‘Bad Teacher’), hitting up NYC haunt Avenue last Thursday. Clad in black jeans and a tank, Diaz lounged with some pals, including Benicio Del Toro, who was crowned with a fedora. The group arrived around 1:30 a.m. and stayed for an hour.

A much more casual friendly encounter went down on Friday in Los Angeles. Amanda Seyfried was enjoying lunch with some girlfriends at the Oaks Gourmet when she noticed her pal Justin Long, whom she chatted with briefly before splitting.

On Saturday in Chicago, things zoomed past friendly and got downright romantic — a newly engaged Niecy Nash turned up to Ameriie‘s performance at an event called ‘Picture of Strength,’ hosted by Softsheen-Carson Roots of Nature. Onlookers said Nash couldn’t stop flashing her engagement ring.

Back in L.A., California’s first family turned out to celebrate one of their own. Katherine Schwarzenegger released her book, ‘Rock What You’ve Got: Secrets to Loving Your Inner and Outer Beauty,’ with a party at the Good Works Space in Santa Monica’s Fred Segal boutique.

Her father, Arnold Schwarzenegger, turned up, as did ...

... mom Maria Shriver and their pals Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson. The governor, who kept it super casual in madras shorts and a golf top, sipped O.N.E. Coconut Water and roamed the boutique floor. Also on Saturday, stars and nonprofit groups gathered for PaddleJam 2010, a celebrity pingpong tournament held at the Music Box in Hollywood. A soon-to-be-single George Lopez attended, as did actor Zachary Levi and Greg Grunberg. Band LMFAO was triumphant in the tourno, to benefit Rock the Vote.

Finally, a little further south in downtown L.A., the cast of ABC’s ‘Brothers & Sisters’ celebrated the show’s upcoming season with a private party in the penthouse of the Haas Building. Sally Field, Rachel Griffiths, Dave Annable, Matthew Rhys and producer Ken Olin sipped a special Bacardi cocktail called (what else?) the Sibling Rivalry.
