Authorities are investigating whether Lindsay Lohan failed one of the court-ordered drug tests required while she’s on probation, sources tell L.A. Now.

While stressing that it hadn’t yet been determined if the actress used illicit drugs, those sources told The Times that the judge and prosecutor in the case have received ‘unofficial’ word of the investigation. Lohan told Gossip Cop the allegations are untrue. TMZ reports that, according to its sources, the test was positive for cocaine.

If Lohan failed a drug test, a court hearing would be held and she could be sent back to jail. When she was most recently determined to have violated probation stemming from a plea bargain in two 2007 DUI cases, she spent 13 days behind bars, starting July 20, then was moved to rehab. Her current probation requires her to take random drug tests twice weekly, meet with counselors five times a week and participate in psychotherapy four times a week.

LiLo was originally ordered to stay in L.A. County under supervised probation for three months after her Aug. 25 release from rehab, but according to KTLA she later sought permission to go to New York, where her mother, Dina, has said her daughter would be able to live a more healthful life than in Los Angeles.

Lohan was recently spotted enjoying New York’s night life and treating her mom to a birthday spa day. (Hat tip for those sightings to our risque pal at What Would Tyler Durden Do.)
