As we roll into August, with Hollywood decamped to Malibu for seasonal spoils, New York took the lead for the most glamorous traffic to close out July. Like Gwyneth Paltrow and her pal Jessica Seinfeld hosting an intimate evening of shopping and shmoozing at East Hampton’s Balenciaga pop-up store Wednesday.

Jessica’s husband Jerry Seinfeld turned up, as did other Hamptons luminaries. Ten percent of proceeds went to the Seinfeld’s charity Baby Buggy, which provides equipment, products and education services for under-privileged New York City families.

Nowhere close to under-privileged was the crowd Wednesday at Anna Wintour‘s Manhattan home, where the Vogue editor hosted American design legends and President Barack Obama for a DNC fundraiser.

Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Tory Burch, Harvey Weinstein and Georgina Chapman, Diane von Furstenberg and hotelier André Balazs all turned up for the 50-person dinner party, where Balazs indicated the president visited each table for conversation.

The following day in the Big Apple, Susan Sarandon turned up at the Morgans Hotel penthouse to support the Body Shop’s campaign to stop sex trafficking of children and young people. The effort, which ...

... would lobby for Safe Harbor laws, is supported by the likes of Robert Pattinson and Sienna Miller. Los Angeles saw its share of action too. On July 26, Alexandra Cousteau and Royal Bank of Canada hosted a reception as part of her 2010 Expedition Blue Planet tour. ‘Breaking Bad’ actor Aaron Paul, Katharine McPhee and Brittany Snow came for the screening and cocktails.

Katie Holmes is back home after filming a TV mini-series in which she plays Jacqueline Kennedy. Mrs. Tom Cruise has been spotted all over town taking meetings and squeezing in dance classes, toting her Fall 2010 Ferragamo boho bag.
