The real estate market is tough all over, even if you’re Mel Gibson, who just unloaded his Connecticut estate property after three years of trying.

(Conveniently, the deal closed before an unknown someone unloaded audio tapes of a profane, raging Mel unloading a racist rant on ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva -- tapes submitted under seal to the court and also the object of a restraining order.)

The 16,000-square-foot house on 75 acres went for nearly $24 million, according to GreenwichTime.com, down from the original 2007 asking price of $39.5 million and a bit off from most recent price tag, $29.7 million. An area Realtor who’d shown the Old Mill Farm property told the website the place is wonderful, historic and, well, needs a little work. (See a video listing from when the asking price was $35 million, after the break.)

At least he’d owned the place for a while, and isn’t suffering the fate of those who bought, rather than attempted to sell, in 2007, when for a few months at least $39.5 million might’ve still seemed like a deal.
