There are two things that “Hung” star Thomas Jane likes to do a lot that probably aren’t high on your list, and at the Season 2 premiere of the HBO comedy-drama, he got to do both.

Sort of.

One is smoking a cigar -- check. The other is going barefoot, which was his anti-sartorial style of choice at last season’s premiere of the series about a high school coach who moonlights as a prostitute. Jane was even spotted doing both at a gas station in Silver Lake last summer.

So what were those things on his feet Wednesday night?

“They’re called Vibrams FiveFinger shoes,” the hunk of “Hung” told us. “They’re like gloves for your feet. They’re the closest thing you can get to being barefoot without being barefoot. It’s supposed to be great for your back, great for your whole -- what’s it called? -- your whole structure.”

And you need to keep that in shape. Your structure is pretty key to your role.

“Thank you. I do take it seriously.”

For the cast and crew, the premiere at the Studios at Paramount unofficially doubled as a wrap party; they’d just returned to L.A. on Friday after filming the new season in Detroit. HBO’s event designer, Billy Butchkavitz, transformed the lawn outside the Paramount Theatre into a blue-and-green garden party, with vases and other accessories whose descriptions are risqué double-entendres that you can’t pry out of our mouth, so don’t even try.

Entertaining the crowd was the Dan Band, a comedy rock group of guys led by Dan Finnerty (husband of Kathy Najimy) who perform covers of pop songs written for women, spiced with four-letter words.

Fresh from Detroit, Jane said he was struck by the grim economy’s impact on the Motor City, but he sounded a positive note: Hollywood is coming to the rescue, thanks to Michigan’s tax rebate for location filming.

“We have 93 movies shooting there this year,” he said, “so those auto-plant guys are now driving trucks for Hollywood. And, yes, we’ve done a lot to support their economy, but it doesn’t fix the problem.”

Jane’s wife, Patricia Arquette, wasn’t there (star spouses often don’t come to events like this so they don’t steal the spotlight). Series costar Anne Heche came with her squeeze, James Tupper, whom she met on the set of “Men in Trees.” Other cast members who came to party included Jane Adams and Rebecca Creskoff (who play dueling pimps), Gregg Henry and Alanna Ubach, as well as “True Blood’s” Michelle Forbes, “Entourage’s” Perrey Reeves and Jennifer Westfeldt.
