The Oscars it ain’t -- but with MTV Movie Awards categories including best kiss, best fight, best villain and best a-couple-of-things-we-can’t-print-’cause-we-don’t-cuss, who cares?

Christina Aguilera’s feathery black gown was anything but basic, though dark tones were hardly the norm Sunday -- Young Hollywood seized the opportunity to kick it in colors and patterns bright and bold, following the shocking locks of fearless leader Katy Perry, above. (The ‘California Gurls’ performer is apparently going through a blue period.)

With ‘subtle’ and ‘classy’ in short supply, there was no absence of sparkle -- witness Lindsay Lohan‘s hi-have-you-met-my-breasts lounging pajamas. Is that a peace sign we see, or the number of drug tests she’s successfully passed since returning from Cannes?

A casual Jackie Chan let young costar Jaden Smith rock their shared ‘Karate Kid’ spotlight in an amazing Technicolor dream coat, while Stephanie Pratt showed in a rainbow wrap of her own. Paris and Nicky Hilton made the scene in relatively subtle style, as did newlyweds Seth Green and Clare Grant -- the latter in a bright coral dress and yellow shoes. Kristen Stewart also walked the red carpet, despite Twitter whispers in the wake of last week’s Elle kerfuffle suggested she might not.

Audrina Patridge’s shiny choice was perhaps a faint, reality-TV echo of Sandra Bullock‘s classic, silvery Oscar ensemble, but somehow we think Patridge’s pick has no chance of surpassing Sandy’s as the Most Recognizable Award Show Frock in History. Bullock was among the biggest of the stars expected Sunday night, after she broke the back-among-the-living ice Saturday night by popping in to pick up a Guys Choice Award courtesy of Spike TV.
