Larry King, for 25 years the host of ‘Larry King Live’ on CNN, said Tuesday that ‘for now it’s time to hang up my nightly suspenders’ so he and his wife, Shawn, can have more time ‘to get to the kids’ Little League games.’

King will end the run of his namesake show this fall, he said, while leaving the door open to host specials on ‘major national and international subjects.’ CNN employees got a memo as well.

The Kings had a brush with divorce earlier this year, but called it off.

Though the host noted ‘Larry King Live’ had set a world record as the longest-running show with the same host in the same time slot, that comes against the backdrop of bad ratings: The audience for King’s show fell 43% in the first quarter of 2010.
