Football great Lawrence Taylor was arraigned Thursday in a New York court on charges of third-degree rape and patronizing a prostitute, the Fabulous Forum reports.

Taylor’s lawyer, Arthur Aidala, said his client denies the charges. Not guilty pleas were entered.

Peter Brower, chief of police for Ramapo, N.Y., said Taylor is accused of paying $300 to have sex with a 16-year-old runaway from New York City, according to the Journal News. The legal age of consent in New York is 17; the girl was 15 when her parents reported her missing.

Bail was set at $75,000 (TMZ says the prosecution asked for $100,000), and the former linebacker was released Thursday afternoon.

A 36-year-old parolee accused of bringing the girl to Taylor’s hotel has been charged with unlawful imprisonment, assault and endangering the welfare of a child, the Associated Press reports.

In a 2004 ’60 Minutes’ interview, USA Today recalls, Taylor talked about call girls being sent to his hotel room.
