Los Angeles’ Chateau Marmont was bubbling over with ‘Glee’ on Saturday night as the cast of the Fox musical hit celebrated creator Ryan Murphy‘s birthday.

Stars Matthew Morrison, Jane Lynch, Mark Salling and Amber Riley joined Murphy on the restaurant’s patio, sipping wine and munching on cake with fresh berries.

The birthday boy, director of the just-wrapped ‘Eat Pray Love’ with Julia Roberts and Javier Bardem and creator of the never-shy series ‘Nip/Tuck,’ made a heartfelt toast to his stars and show staff.

‘I have so much love for all of you, and I’m so proud of what I created,’ he told the crowd.

His speech touched on the unexpected success of ‘Glee’ and how well it coped during his five-month absence while prepping and shooting ‘Love.’

Then Murphy stayed true to his school (or rather, to his high school musical) and gave a pop quiz to his guests -- all trivia about himself.

Questions included, ‘Where did Ryan grow up?’ and ‘Where does Ryan say he grew up?’

(Answers: Indiana and Paris, respectively.)

Also at Chateau on Saturday, a newly separated James Van Der Beek at a table with no fewer than five females, as well as hottie Ryan Phillippe having a guys dinner with actor Breckin Meyer and a male friend.
