L.A.’s high-wind warning really is for later today -- the strong gusts you’ve been experiencing this morning are because folks are falling over themselves gushing about Ricky Gervais hosting the Golden Globe Awards on Jan. 17. Gervais does seems pretty psyched:

‘Someone must have said, ‘Is there like a fat schmuck from Britain who doesn’t know our ways and would think this is a real honor? Who’d do it for a giant pizza?’ My agent overheard them. . . .’

The Times’ columnist Patrick Goldstein says he’s already setting his TiVo for the show, while pitying the Oscars a bit for getting the red carpet pulled out from under.

E! Online has proclaimed that ‘the Golden Globes just got a whole lot funnier.’

KTLA’s Michaela Pereira took a pause during the morning newscast Tuesday shout-out to Ricky and give him a mini-round of applause on her own.

NBC exec Paul Telegdy said Monday that Gervais is ‘certainly one of the funniest people on the planet and has provided some of the most hilarious and memorable awards-show moments in recent history,’ and the Washington Post agreed, in theory, though expressed disappointment in Ricky’s press-release tone, and instead pointed clickers to Gervais’ classic Emmys moment shown above.

And our nominee in the ‘Ricky Gervais for Prom King’ category has to be Jarett Wieselman at the New York Post’s PopWrap, who said: ‘Personally, I yipped like a schoolgirl when I got the email touting his turn as host.’

How can you not love that?
