Ricky Gervais has been tapped to host the 67th annual Golden Globe Awards, taking over for last year’s emcee, who was -- actually, who wasn’t anyone at all.

The Globes have been on autopilot since 1995.

Isn’t that convenient!

It’s ‘an environment where I feel I can get free reign as a host,” Gervais said in an enthusiastic statement about accepting the gig. No duh!

Here’s the part where our minds start wondering what exactly ‘free reign’ means to a comic like Gervais, especially when he’s starting with a virtually blank canvas. We like where it’s wandering, given Ricky’s history with the British incarnation of ‘The Office.’

Does it make me a bad person if I didn’t notice that the Globes haven’t had a host for a decade-plus? I hope not.

But if it does, I’m thinking I’ll have quiiiite a bit of company when we baddies all get together on Jan. 17 to watch Ricky do his thing.

Gonna need more dip.
