The Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Radio and Television Artists are moving closer to a merger.

The two unions met in New York earlier this week to discuss a marriage, approving resolutions to create a draft mission statement and committees that would develop a plan for merger.

“Each step we take together brings us closer to our crucial goal of becoming one union, and last weekend’s meeting was no exception,’ said SAG President Ken Howard.

‘We have come a very long way in a short period of time,’ added AFTRA President Roberta Reardon.

The recommendations will be pitched to the Screen Actors Guild board of directors at its meeting April 30 and May 1 and to the AFTRA board at its meeting May 14.
