Normally, we don’t write up development deals here at Company Town. They happen every day, and unless it’s a huge name and you know the the dollars and cents, what’s the point?

But we’ll make an exception for Jenji Kohan, the creator and executive producer of Showtime’s ‘Weeds,’ who has signed a new contract with Lionsgate. She went above and beyond the usual bland ‘I look forward to working with the studio on developing new shows’ statement that often accompany these announcements.

‘Having gotten to second base with Lionsgate in my former ‘under the shirt but over the bra’ deal, it’s a thrill to now be in bed with them and going all the way,’ Kohan said, adding, ‘Let us hope our creative offspring make us both proud and happy for years to come.’ Lest anyone think Kohan has a dirty mind, she threw in that she’s only talking business and for everyone to get their ‘minds out of the gutter.’

Besides ‘Weeds,’ Kohan’s other writing credits include ‘Sex and the City’ and ‘Tracey Takes On.’ She is currently developing ‘Tough Trade’ for the new pay channel Epix. And get your mind out of the gutter again, it’s about a country music family and stars Sam Shepard.
