Fox Sports filed formal notice Tuesday of its appeal to last week’s ruling that the Dodgers can sell their television rights along with the team.

The notice did not cite the grounds for the appeal. Judge Kevin Gross has yet to issue the written opinion in which he promised to explain his ruling.

Fox also is expected to ask the U.S. District Court to stay Gross’ ruling, pending the outcome of the appeal.

The Dodgers’ contract with Fox forbids the team from negotiating with other media outlets before Nov. 30, 2012. Gross’ ruling advances that date to Jan. 19.

Dodgers owner Frank McCourt thinks the team would sell for more money if a buyer knew exactly how many billions to expect in television revenue, though the buyer would not be obligated to accept whatever deal McCourt negotiates.
