The Dodgers pitched pretty well Sunday, aside from against the opposing pitcher.

The Dodgers simply had no answer for Arizona’s Daniel Hudson, on the mound or at the plate.

And the way their offense is going, that proved a deadly combo in a 4-1 loss to the Diamondbacks in Phoenix.

After winning five consecutive games, the Dodgers have lost their last two to drop the three-game series to Arizona.

Starter Ted Lilly pitched very well for the Dodgers -- striking out a season-high nine -- but continued to be plagued by the home run.

Lilly gave up one to Ryan Roberts in the second and one to Hudson in the sixth. Lilly has given up 21 home runs on the season, second in the National League to the 23 by Houston Astros’ Brett Myers.

Then after the Dodgers scored their only run in the seventh on a wild pitch, Hudson drove in two more on a bases-loaded single against Blake Hawksworth in the bottom of the inning.

Hudson is the top-hitting pitcher in baseball, his .356 batting average also leading the Diamondbacks. His three runs batted in left him with 12 on the season.

And he was just as impressive on the mound, holding the Dodgers to five hits -- all singles -- and not walking a batter in throwing his fourth complete game of the season.

Hudson started the year 0-4, but has gone 10-1 in his last 16 starts to take his overall record to 10-5.

The Dodgers’ inept offense has hardly turned a corner with the start of the second half. They have now scored two runs or fewer in seven of their last 11 games, and they won two of those by 1-0 scores.

Lilly went 6 2/3 innings, giving up four hits and was charged with all four runs.
