There’s a new restaurant-bar-market hybrid Downtown called Artisan House, and it takes the term ‘handcrafted’ seriously. Located on the ground floor of the Pacific Electric Building, Artisan House offers patrons a place to eat, sip a cocktail or pick up the ingredients for tonight’s dinner party. The restaurant, bar and market are soft-open, and slated for an official opening to the public Thursday.

“The Dean and Deluca of the west is the kind of place we wanted to create,’ says co-founder and Director of Brand Development Raphael Javaheri, who grew up in New York.

Javaheri wanted to be as green as possible, using chairs made of reclaimed beechwood, while the beautiful bar top is made from the building’s original wooden doors. A philosophy of sustainability applies to the production behind their California- and Mediterranean-influenced food as well. The restaurant produces all its own pastas, sauces, bases and stocks from scratch.

‘We are doing everything with the best raw materials we can get,’ says executive chef Jason Ryczek. ‘There is a level of respect paid to every ingredient and every dish, start to finish.’

The restaurant offers menus for brunch, lunch, dinner and sandwiches, to name a few. Samples from the all-day menu include the burrata and house-cured trout and the house-made duck prosciutto and pear flatbread. The restaurant will also feature table-side cart service for some of the menu dishes and possibly a specialty cocktail dreamed up by mixologist Elden McFeron III, known for his drink concoctions at The Bazaar.

On the opposite side of the restaurant is the market and deli section, where patrons can purchase sandwiches, desserts and charcuterie from the deli and select products in the market area. An array of specialty sodas, organic liquors, wines, snacks and ingredients are available, as well as all-natural cleaning supplies and personal hygiene items. Artisan House will also produce its own private label of olives, olive oil, preserves, nuts and dried fruit for sale, with more items to come.
