SBE Restaurant Group has announced that it will open the eighth location of its popular Katsuya by Starck restaurant inside the Andaz hotel in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter. And it’s going to be a big one, 6,000 square feet, with both indoor and outdoor seating. The scheduled opening is in early 2012.

The menu will be much the same as those at the other Katsuyas, with sushi leading the way along with traditional Japanese dishes and plenty of robata. This latest opening comes on the heels of the recent opening of Katsuya Laguna Beach. Additional locations are in the works for Houston and the SLS Hotel in South Beach.

SBE founder Sam Nazarian told us earlier this year that he planned to take his local brands national. It looks like he means it.
