Strawberry Festival:
The 28th annual California Strawberry Festival is this weekend in Oxnard. There will be more than 40 food booths (most of them selling ... well, you know), concerts, cooking demonstrations and a special Strawberryland for kids with free rides and other stuff. Strawberry Meadows of College Park in Oxnard. Admission is $12 for adults, kids 5-12 $5, younger than that free. More details here.

Cooking cheap, for a cause: At Surfas in Culver City on Thursday night, Jesse Brun, a celebrity chef featured on ‘Private Chefs of Beverly Hills,’ will demonstrate for the group Live Below the Line how to cook meals for less than $1.50 per person -- that’s the amount of money the group says more than a quarter of the world’s population lives on everyday. 8777 W. Nobu and Meals on Wheels: Chef Alex Becker at Nobu Los Angeles will host the latest in a series of pop-up charity dinners to benefit St. Vincent Meals on Wheels on Sunday night at the restaurant. The menu includes Kumamoto oysters, ‘new-style’ salmon, beef ribeye anticuchos and chocolate bento. Matching wines will be chosen by Stacie Hunt. Tickets are $150 per person, with all proceeds benefiting Meals on Wheels. 903 N. La Cienega Blvd., Los Angeles. Reserve seats.
