Unfortunately, I do not get to try everything that comes out of the Test Kitchen. But I tried these butterscotch brownies and I’d hereby like to nominate them as one of the best recipes of 2011. (I am well aware that it is only April, and Times Test Kitchen manager Noelle Carter and her crew of kitchen elves have barely made a dent in all the cooking they have planned for the year. Here’s a photo gallery look at what they’ve done so far.)

Time will tell whether I am right.

These butterscotch brownies are on the menu at Clementine Bakery & Cafe in Los Angeles. They kindly shared the recipe with Noelle after reader Mindy Nyby of Los Angeles wrote to say: ‘I absolutely love the butterscotch brownie at Clementine in Los Angeles. It’s chewy and full of brown-sugary goodness — the perfect afternoon treat or sweet for a picnic. I’d love to be able to make it at home. Would you be able to find the recipe for me?’ Done and done, Mindy, here you go.
