The newest volume of ‘Canal House Cooking’ -- the sixth -- has just been released. The project of Christopher Hirsheimer and Melissa Hamilton, this latest installment, titled ‘The Grocery Store,’ follows the path set by previous numbers. There’s the same refined sense of subtle, unadorned cooking, lavishly illustrated with exquisite photographs. It all sounds like food you want to run out and cook immediately -- braised escarole with white beans, stew of baby artichokes and favas, and meringues with strawberries and roasted rhubarb. This newest edition also has a bonus -- a story by Colman Andrews on Sacramento’s Darrell Corti, titled ‘The Best Grocery Store in the World.’

‘Canal House Cooking #6,’ $19.95 or a three-book annual subscription for $49.95, (609) 802-7997.
