Angel City Brewing, the 14-year-old microbrewery that once called Alpine Village in Torrance home, has moved to downtown Los Angeles. It held a few parties in its beer garden last weekend, but it celebrates its grand opening this weekend.

Friday’s party features food trucks, local art and music, and Saturday’s official grand opening celebration will feature barbecue tri-tip and sausage grilled by owner Michael Bowe’s brother, Matthew.

The 27,000-square-foot facility houses a German brewery that Bowe bought on eBay and moved from Torrance to downtown. Originally installed in 1988, Bowe says his is the oldest microbrewery in Southern California. Right now Angel City has the capacity to bew 1,500 barrels a year.

But Bowe dreams big and hopes to up that number by many thousands in the coming years. Plans are also in the works for a full-service restaurant, a special events space and a gift shop. Bowe has indicated that he’d be interested in working with an established restaurateur on a concept for the space.

In the meantime downtown is just happy to see its renaissance continue with Angel City’s massive new beer garden and tasting bar.
