Wednesday night marked the first anniversary of the West Hollywood outpost of Nobu. The event started at 10 p.m. as lines of pretty party people formed outside the door and a hectic valet-generated traffic jam clogged La Cienega.

An open bar featuring cucumber, lychee and mango martinis kept the soiree well lubricated, as did generous quantities of wine, Champagne and sake served in Nobu’s signature wooden cups, which were circulated through the dining room, bar and patio on trays.

A number of notable faces mingled with the crowd, including Audrina Patridge from ‘The Hills’ (apparently living this moment of her life off camera), Chris Evans, a perky Amanda Bynes, David Katzenberg, Nicky Hilton and socialite extraordinaire Lady Victoria Hervey.

However, one guest in particular caught my attention: Leonardo DiCaprio. Dressed in baggy jeans, shiny black sneakers and a ball cap, DiCaprio was living proof of the Hollywood maxim that the more dressed down you are the more important you most likely are.

He sat at the far end of the patio surrounded by a tightly packed crowd of people who were trying really hard to act super casual. More than a few wispy girls in tiny dresses danced around him to the DJ’s beats, hoping he would notice. Like most everybody else there, I watched him while trying not to watch him until Nobu’s always affable managing partner, Richie Notar, escorted him out through the back door.

“Can I get a quote from him?” I lamely asked Notar, whom I profiled for the Guide last year. Notar grinned and continued walking. “He had fun,” he said.
