N’iceCream gelato and sorbet coming to Abbot Kinney

Who cares if its chilly and cloudy outside? Not Copenhagen-based purveyors of organic gelato Christian Toxboe and Laura Nielsen, who are opening their first U.S. store on Abbot Kinney in Venice on Sept. 27. The shop, called N’iceCream (the sticky-sweet name is weirdly appealing), plans to offer 85 flavors all created using organic, free-trade all-natural ingredients. The offerings aren’t fancy -- think coffee, pistachio, caramel and mint chocolate, among others -- but given the shop’s straightforward approach to making gelato, simplicity makes perfect sense.

Mark your calendars: The shop will offer free samples on Oct. 3 from noon to 4 p.m.
