Nick Jonas to kick off Broadway Week on 'Jimmy Fallon'
It's Broadway Week on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" next week, and the five nights of musical numbers from Broadway shows are scheduled to kick off with Nick Jonas doing a song from the musical comedy "How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying." Jonas took over the part of J. Pierrepont Finch in the revival from Darren Criss, who did a brief stint earlier this year after Daniel Radcliffe brought in the crowds throughout his tenure last year.
Jonas is to be followed on Tuesday by two-time Tony Award-nominee David Alan Grier from "Porgy and Bess." On Wednesday, the cast of the new musical "Ghost," based on the 1990 Patrick Swayze-Demi Moore love story, is to present a sneak peek of the show, which is to open this spring after a successful run in London. The week is set to wrap up with performances from the Tony-winning musical revival "Anything Goes" and "Sister Act," which originated at the Pasadena Playhouse, on Thursday and Friday, respectively.
Prior performers on Fallon's show have included cast members from "Memphis," "American Idiot," "Promises, Promises" and "Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson."
Fallon's promotion of Broadway shows, which began in 2010, recalls "The Rosie O'Donnell Show," her original talk show in the 1990s, which regularly featured New York plays and musicals.
Aside from the fact that her current talk show on Oprah Winfrey's OWN is based in Chicago, O'Donnell might not have the budget for championing Broadway's best anymore: The show recently cut back on staff and moved to a smaller studio.
