Regis Philbin's own version of 'Rent's' 'Seasons of Love' [Video]

November 18, 2011 |  9:25 am

Regis Philbin bid farewell to his "Live!" audience Friday after roughly 995,600 minutes on the air. How did that statistic make it out there? It was courtesy of the cast of "Rent," whose Broadway cast appeared on the show to perform a specially rewritten version of the musical's hit anthem, "Seasons of Love."

The normal lyrics are, "five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes" (or the amount of minutes in a year). The rewritten lyrics commemorate Philbin's roughly 16,500 hours on the air, counting his multiple hours of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire," "Million Dollar Password" and "The Joey Bishop Show."

The song, known to a lot of people as "the minutes song," has been a particular "Live!" favorite, with the cast of both the Broadway musical and the film musical coming on to perform it for Reeg, as well as cover artists, such as "American Idol" hopeful Frenchie Davis, who performed her own version of the tune.
