The famed Paris museum was scheduled to open Thursday after a $27-million renovation, but remained closed when a strike was called by workers protesting the impending loss of museum jobs due to budget cuts. Some 34 museum employees were on strike.

The job cutbacks would be in 2012.

The two-year renovation created more than 20,000 feet of new space. It was unclear when the museum would open.
