An early look at 'Bring It On' musical [Video]

"Bring It On: The Musical" begins performances at the Ahmanson Theatre on Sunday. It's the first stop on a national tour of the show about competitive cheerleading, following a world premiere earlier this year at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta.

Cast members from the production gave the public a taste of the music during a live performance of one of the songs this week at Universal CityWalk.

The musical is being backed by Universal Pictures Stage Productions. Lin-Manuel Miranda is the co-composer and co-lyricist; he composed the music with Tom Kitt and wrote the lyrics with Amanda Green.

In recent weeks, producers of the musical have been engaged in a legal battle with the screenwriter of the 2000 movie "Bring It On," who said that the producers never acquired or received permission to use her exclusive rights.

"Bring It On" has its official opening Nov. 11. The show is scheduled to tour through June to cities including San Francisco, Chicago and Toronto. Here's video of the CityWalk performance.

The number is “It’s All Happening," which is sung when the best dance crew at the high school has agreed to form a cheer squad.
