Pacific Standard Time announces music, dance events

Pacific Standard Time, the region-wide festival organized by the Getty that’s dedicated to postwar culture in L.A., will kick off in October, with exhibitions taking place all over Southern California. But the multi-week event won’t be limited to just the visual arts. Organizers announced on Thursday a list of music, dance and other cultural programs that will take place as part of the festival.
In Costa Mesa, the Segerstrom Center for the Arts will host a free concert on Oct. 2 at its outdoor Arts Plaza, featuring the Grammy-winning band Ozomatli.
On Oct. 9, a symposium on the L.A. architecture scene in the ‘70s will take place at Woodbury University’s Julius Shulman Institute.
The Music Center will host an outdoor series of rehearsals by Diavolo Dance Theater for a commissioned project that addresses skateboard culture. The rehearsals, at the Music Center plaza, will be Nov. 4-6 and will be free.
On Nov. 5, the Broad Stage will host a screening of the 2011 documentary ‘Troubadours’ by Morgan Neville, about the music scene in Los Angeles in the ‘60s and ‘70s. The screening will be followed by a live concert and a conversation with the director.
The Colburn School will host a concert on Nov. 14 titled ‘Found Horizon: Stravinsky in L.A.’s Progressive Music Scene 1949-64.’ The concert will pay tribute to the Russian composer and the years he spent in Southern California.
Zócalo Public Square will host a forum at the Getty Center on Nov. 19 that will address culture in postwar L.A. and how it affected the city. The L.A. Philharmonic will present ‘The Hollywood Sound,’ a concert series exploring the historical evolution of movie music. The concerts, which will be conducted by Thomas Wilkins, will take place Dec. 8, 9 and 11.
The L.A. County Museum of Art will host a discussion by the Goethe-Institut L.A., addressing the artistic exchanges between Californian and German artists. The talk will take place Jan. 10.
‘Millard Sheets: A Legacy of Art and Architecture’ will offer a tour of several sites in Pomona and Claremont that reflect the artist’s contributions to the area’s cultural life. The tour, taking place March 18, is organized by the L.A. Conservancy.
