Neil Patrick Harris to host Tony Awards, again

Neil Patrick Harris will once again be putting on a tuxedo to host the Tony Awards ceremony, which will take place June 12 at the Beacon Theatre in New York. The actor previously hosted the Tonys in 2009. Last year’s host was Sean Hayes.

The ceremony will be broadcast on CBS, with a delay for the West Coast. This is the first year the ceremony will be held at the Beacon. The show’s usual home, Radio City Music Hall, is unavailable due to the new Cirque du Soleil show, ‘Zarkana,’ that will debut there this summer.

In a statement, Harris said ‘we’ve got a fantastic mix of live performances, a few secret surprises and since they’re closed for retooling, we’re using all the rigging equipment from ‘Spider-Man.’ What could possibly go wrong?’

The last time Harris hosted the Tony Awards ceremony, he and the producers received an Emmy Award.

There had been rumors that Tony producers were courting Daniel Radcliffe to host the show. But the ‘Harry Potter’ star was snubbed at the nominations, which would have made him an awkward fit for the show. Some say producers wanted Chris Rock to host, but that the comedian declined.

Other recent Tony hosts include Whoopi Goldberg in 2008 and Hugh Jackman in 2005.
