God of Carnage,’ the Tony-winning comedy by Yasmina Reza at the Ahmanson Theatre, features a cast of characters who scream, hit and insult each other eight times a week. It’s a physically and vocally demanding play that explores the limits of so-called civilized adult behavior.

Jeff Daniels plays Alan, an obnoxious attorney who is glued to his cellphone. Hope Davis is his wife, Annette, a wealth-management executive whose poised professional exterior hides a weak stomach. James Gandolfini and Tony-winner Marcia Gay Harden complete the cast as the rival couple.
