Reprise Theatre Company will present two very different tales of European life during its 2011-12 season at UCLA’s Freud Playhouse.

‘Cabaret,’ which explores the decadent world of ‘30s Berlin, will run Sept. 13-25. The show, which has music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb and a book by Joe Masteroff, is based on a play by John Van Druten and stories by Christopher Isherwood. It earned eight Tonys after its 1966 Broadway debut and picked up four more for its 1998 revival. The 1972 film version won eight Oscars.

‘The Baker’s Wife,’ a bittersweet romance set in a quaint French village, will run Feb. 14-26, 2012. Stephen Schwartz (‘Pippin,’ ‘Wicked’) wrote the score and Joseph Stein (‘Fiddler on the Roof’) the book for the musical, which is based on the 1938 movie ‘La femme du boulanger.” ’The Baker’s Wife’ premiered in Los Angeles in 1976 and toured for six months but closed before reaching Broadway. Even so, it has developed a following thanks in part to a cast album that features Paul Sorvino and Patti LuPone. (Among the songs is the LuPone standard ‘Meadowlark.’)

A third production, which will run April 17-29, 2012, will be announced later as will casts and creative teams for all the offerings.

Currently, Reprise is staging Lerner and Loewe’s ‘Gigi,’ which runs through Feb. 27. Concluding the 2010-11 season will be Cole Porter’s ‘Kiss Me, Kate,’ May 10-22.

This season, the Westwood-based company, which specializes in reviving classic musicals, also will present a March 22 benefit performance by Barry Manilow at UCLA’s Royce Hall and concerts at the Freud starring Betty Buckley and Seth Rudetsky on Feb. 21 and Barbara Cook on May 16.
