The Pulitzer Prize-winning Broadway musical ‘Next to Normal’ will soon be making its Los Angeles debut at the Ahmanson Theatre, officially opening Nov. 28 and running through Jan. 2. Soon after the show plays in L.A., it will be bidding adieu to New York.

On Wednesday, producers of the musical announced that the Broadway production of ‘Next to Normal’ will be closing Jan. 16. The show will have played 733 regular performances at the Booth Theatre. Prior to coming to Broadway, it had productions at the off-Broadway Second Stage Theatre and the Arena Stage in Washington, D.C.

The musical, about a psychologically unstable suburban mother, won the Pulitzer Prize for drama this year. It also won Tony Awards for actress Alice Ripley and the score by Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey, but it lost the best musical award to ‘Billy Elliot.’

Ripley will be reprising her role as Diana in L.A. and then embarking on a national tour. The show will stop in Denver, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, Washington, D.C. and elsewhere.

In March, it was reported that the Broadway production of ‘Next to Normal’ had recouped its initial investment of $4 million.
