Hal Holbrook sets return to stage following wife Dixie Carter’s death

Hal Holbrook, the Tony-winning, Oscar-nominated actor, has set his return to the stage following the death of his wife Dixie Carter last week.
Holbrook is scheduled to perform his signature solo show ‘Mark Twain Tonight!’ on May 5 at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. The engagement was originally supposed to open March 19 but was postponed due to a family emergency.
Carter died in Houston on Saturday following a battle with cancer. The actress and Holbrook had been married since 1984.
‘Mr. Holbrook offers his best wishes to his loyal audience and appreciates their patience in these trying times,’ said the Thousand Oaks theater in a statement on Tuesday.
Prior to that engagement, Holbrook is scheduled to perform the show in Elmira, N.Y. on April 21, according to reports.
The Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza said tickets purchased for the previously scheduled dates will be honored on the new performance date of May 5. Ticket holders can also receive refunds at the point of original purchase, up to 24 hours prior to the new date.
Holbrook has performed ‘Mark Twain Tonight!’ for close to 55 years, most notably on Broadway as recently as 2005. He received a Tony for his 1966 staging of the show at the Longacre Theatre.
