Jessica Lange shows her artier side in photography project

In her film career, Jessica Lange has played a damsel in love with a big ape (‘King Kong’), a psychologically disturbed actress (‘Frances’), a free-spirited housewife (‘Blue Sky’) and an eccentric recluse living with her daughter in magnificent squalor (‘Grey Gardens’).

But for her latest role, Lange has chosen to step behind the camera lens.

In a recently published book, the Oscar-winning actress is showing 50 photographs that she took between 1992 and 2008 in such places as Mexico, Minnesota, Montana and Utah.

Lange will present some of her images in New Orleans on Oct. 3 at a gallery presentation hosted by A Gallery for Fine Photography. Earlier this year, Lange presented photographs at the Rose Gallery in Santa Monica.

You can get a quick glimpse at some of the photos in her book, ’50 Photographs by Jessica Lange,’ which offers a visual catalog of Lange’s travels in North America, Africa and Europe. The black-and-white images are often spare and unsentimental, capturing people in seemingly non-staged action.

Prints of Lange’s photographs are also on sale through A Gallery, mostly priced around $1,800.

Her book is published by powerHouse Books.
