Nora Ephron wants you to know ‘What I Wore’

Nora Ephron has built an industry out of a certain female-centric genre of rueful comedy that delights many, annoys some and typically (though certainly not always) grosses boatloads of cash. The playwright-screenwriter (‘Sleepless in Seattle,’ ‘You’ve Got Mail’) is at it again with her latest theatrical endeavor, co-written with her sister, Delia. ‘Love, Loss and What I Wore’ will open Oct. 1 at New York’s Westside Theatre for a 12-week run. The evening of comic vignettes will star a rotating series of actresses including Rosie O’Donnell, Rita Wilson, Kristin Chenoweth and others.

Based on the book by Ilene Beckerman and supplemented by the Ephron sisters’ own experiences, the show uses clothes and accessories to trigger colorful anecdotes delivered in monologue fashion. (In fact, Nora described it as ‘The Vagina Monologues’ minus the vaginas on her HuffPo blog.)

The show began as a series of readings earlier this year at the off-Broadway DR2 Theatre. The new production will be directed by Karen Carpenter and will be produced by Daryl Roth. Other cast members already confirmed are Tyne Daly, Mary Louise Wilson, Katie Finneran and Samantha Bee.

A couple of months before the play takes its bow, Nora Ephron’s newest movie, ‘Julie & Julia,’ starring Meryl Streep and Amy Adams, opens nationwide.
