Museum banners find second lives as home decorations

Banners

Those billowing banners that adorn the outsides of art museums, advertising the latest exhibitions inside, are now finding their way into homes, thanks to a partnership between BetterWall and art institutions around the country.

Reincarnated as wall decorations, a selection of these advertisements is now available for sale at retailer Room & Board in Santa Ana, according to our friends over at the Home & Garden blog. (A branch of the store is set to open in Culver City in September.) Among the banners for sale are those from a recent Henri Matisse exhibition at the San Francisco Museum of Art and a Georgia O'Keeffe "Red Flower" exhibition at the Art Institute of Chicago.

Buyers, however, should be warned to expect art-world prices. The banners go for $415 to $525 apiece and come with certificates of authenticity.
