The Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles is getting a lot of attention after Gustavo Dudamel led a revelatory rehearsal with the elementary-school-age musicians on Saturday morning. As reported here, the orchestra will play a public concert on Feb. 21 at Santee High School.

This program, though, will not be with Dudamel. He is not scheduled to conduct again in Los Angeles until the fall, when he begins his tenure as the L.A. Philharmonic music director.

But don’t let that stop you. Dudamel has fired up the kids, promising that if they work, their next stop will be Disney Hall. They are a marvel to behold and they need our support. The Harmony Project instructors also are an inspiration. If the community gets behind this venture, believe me, there may be more Dudamels in the making.
