Postmodern choreographer David Gordon, 72, is revisiting his 1982 performance piece ‘Trying Times’ in a new staging, this time called ‘Trying Times (remembered)’ , opening Wednesday and onstage through Sunday at REDCAT.

Hearing of a new (old) project from Gordon may be giving some L.A. arts aficionados a case of performance art deja vu -- call it ‘David Gordon (remembered)’: Gordon, wife Valda Setterfield and son Ain Gordon (in photo, from left) appeared together at the Mark Taper Forum back in 1995 in ‘The Family Business,’ co-written, directed and choreographed by David and Ain and based on the family’s experiences with David’s Aunt Annie.

David and Ain also collaborated with composer Jeanine Tesori on ‘The First Picture Show,’ described in the Times as a ‘near musical’ and presented at the Taper in 1999 after its world premiere in San Francisco.
