Skelton: California lawmakers need to act on pensions
George Skelton writes in his Thursday column that Democrats should move quickly if they understand the way the political winds are blowing.
He notes that pension changes and the push for higher taxes are joined at the hip.
"Virtually no one in the Capitol believes that voters will approve a state tax increase unless the Legislature and governor have enacted serious pension reform," Skelton writes. "And to delay the reform until late August would merely provide the anti-tax crowd an additional two months to shout that Sacramento just doesn’t get it."
