Scott Peters eyes November contest in 52nd Congressional District

Although 13,500 ballots remain to be counted in San Diego County, it isn’t looking good for Lori Saldaña, a former assemblywoman running in the 52nd Congressional District.
She trails fellow Democrat Scott Peters by 737 votes in the contest to see who will face Republican Rep. Brian Bilbray, the top vote-getter, in the November election.
On Wednesday, Saldaña issued a statement that her campaign insists is not a concession, but sure sounds like one, while Peters said he is preparing for the runoff.
‘Many thanks to the thousands of people who supported my congressional campaign by volunteering, contributing and casting votes for me on June 5,’ Saldaña said. ‘As the final tallies are completed, I congratulate the winners in all the primary campaigns and look forward to supporting my fellow Progressives who will continue their efforts this fall.’
Minutes late, Peters issued a statement indicating that it was apparent that he will be the Democrat to take on Bilbray. “I congratulate and thank Lori Saldaña for running a tough, dynamic campaign,” Peters said. “It absolutely helped sharpen our focus for the bigger fight ahead.’’
