Kinde Durkee court hearing to be postponed again

Attorneys for campaign treasurer Kinde Durkee and the federal government have agreed to a one-month delay for a court hearing that had been set for Thursday on allegations that she embezzled political funds from a state lawmaker.

If a judge signs off on the delay, as expected, the hearing will be held Feb. 28 in federal court in Sacramento.

Durkee was arrested Sept. 2 and charged with mail fraud in a case that alleges she misused $677,000 in 2010 from the campaign account of Assemblyman Jose Solorio (D-Santa Ana).

Durkee oversaw campaign accounts for nearly 100 candidates, including U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and state Sen. Lou Correa (D-Santa Ana).

An agreement between Durkee’s attorney and Assistant U.S. Atty. John K. Vincent was filed with the court Wednesday. It says ‘the case is complex given the number of clients of Ms. Durkee and bank accounts involved. The investigation has continued, a significant amount of materials have been acquired, and the government needs additional time to review, analyze, and synthesize those materials.’’

The same reasons were given for previous delays in the court hearings.
