The dust-up over Meg Whitman’s employment of an illegal immigrant housekeeper is now fodder for late-night TV. Last week, “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno cracked a few jokes about the controversy at the expense of the housekeeper’s attorney, Gloria Allred, a high-profile lawyer who represented a client who made damaging personal charges against Arnold Schwarzenegger when he first ran for governor in 2003.

“Gloria Allred called the maid the Rosa Parks of the Latino community,” Leno said. “The only problem is Rosa Parks was here legally. I think we kinda forget that.”

Leno played a clip from Whitman’s press conference last Thursday where the Republican nominee said the housekeeper, Nicandra Diaz Santillan, was being “manipulated” by Allred. The host then did his own manipulating, altering a clip from Allred’s press conference to show the housekeeper as a puppet, with Allred pulling a string to make her speak.

“How about we let the maid stay and we deport Gloria Allred,” Leno said to applause.
