When Fabian Nuñez left the Assembly, he walked away with more than $4 million in his political bank account. Much of that money was raised during the 2005 special election, and some Democratic leaders said Nuñez should leave that money with the Assembly’s Democratic caucus.

Nuñez declined, and his war chest has been the subject of much speculation. Monday, the former Speaker of the Assembly gave more than $489,000 of that money to the campaign for Proposition 25, which would allow state lawmakers to pass a budget with a simple majority vote.

Nuñez now works as a political consultant in Sacramento with Mercury Public Affairs, where he is partners with Arnold Schwarzenegger’s political adviser Adam Mendelsohn.
