Republican gubernatorial nominee Meg Whitman has yet to win the endorsement of her GOP primary election rival, Steve Poizner, but one of the state insurance commissioner’s chief spokesmen will be joining her campaign.

Darrel Ng, press secretary for the Department of Insurance, will join Whitman’s press shop next week.

A veteran of California politics, Ng was chief deputy press secretary to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger from 2003 to 2007 and ran communications for the California Business, Transportation and Housing Agency. He also served as traveling press secretary for the fleeting presidential campaign of former Sen. Fred Thompson in 2008.

Ng apparently couldn’t resist getting a head start on his new job Wednesday.

‘Californians must unite to prevent failed Governor Jerry Brown from spending another four years in Sacramento,’ he said in a statement. ‘Meg Whitman is the only candidate who has a proven record of creating jobs and who has the will to bring California jobs back. I’m honored and excited to be joining this team of dedicated professionals.’
