California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has until Tuesday to call an election to replace state Sen. Dave Cox (R-Fair Oaks), who died earlier this month after a battle with cancer.

Schwarzenegger has the option of consolidating the election with the November primary. That would save the 12 counties that make up the 1st Senate District the cost of holding a special election.

Republican Assemblymen Ted Gaines (R-Roseville) and Roger Niello (R-Fair Oaks) are among those expected to run for the seat.
