Assemblyman Sam Blakeslee (R-San Luis Obispo) looks like he will come up just short in his effort to win a state Senate seat vacated by Republican Abel Maldonado. Blakeslee apparently fell just shy of the 50% of the vote needed to avoid an Aug. 17 runoff against former Assemblyman John Laird (D-Santa Cruz). With 100% of precincts reporting, Blakeslee has 49.7% of the vote. There may yet be absentee and provisional ballots to count.

You can get up to the minute results from the Secretary of State’s website.
