Florida bankruptcy attorneys have asked a defunct California ballot measure committee to return a $250,000 contribution from Florida attorney Scott Rothstein.

Rothstein gave the money to Proposition 11, the measure that took legislative redistricting out of the hands of state lawmakers. The initiative was backed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

According to the Miami Herald, ‘Rothstein pleaded guilty in January to racketeering and other charges for running a $1.2-billion Ponzi scheme out of his Las Olas Boulevard firm. He faces up to 100 years in prison at his sentencing in June.’

Now, attorneys representing Rothstein’s creditors are asking for political groups and candidates to return more than $650,000 in contributions made by the firm.

For what it’s worth, campaign records show that the Proposition 11 committee has $6,794.14 in the bank.
