Lori Saldana lectures Sen. Abel Maldonado, then votes for his confirmation

During Thursday’s Assembly debate over whether to confirm state Sen. Abel Maldonado (R-Santa Maria) as lieutenant governor, Assemblywoman Lori Saldana (D-San Diego) criticized the appointee for not doing his ‘homework’ on his own voting record -- right before she voted to confirm him.

Saldana scolded Maldonado for saying he voted in favor of an employment anti-discrimination bill in the Senate last year when in fact he had voted against it.

That mischaracterization of his record led Saldana, a former teacher, to oppose Maldonado’s confirmation. Or so she said. ‘As a former schoolteacher, when I see people who don’t do their homework and prepare,” trouble is ahead, Saldana told her colleagues immediately before the vote. But when it came time to vote on the confirmation itself, Saldana actually voted to approve Maldonado.

Looks like someone else needs to be a little better prepared.
