State gasoline, diesel consumption falls

March 1, 2010 |  1:56 pm

Gasoline consumption in California was down by 1.4% in 2009, and higher prices are probably a reason for drop.

The average per-gallon price in 2009 was $3.01 -- 50 cents higher than the average price in 2008.

The figures were released by the state Board of Equalization, a state tax-collection agency that monitors the taxes on gasoline and diesel fuel.

Diesel consumption in November 2009 was down more than 3% compared with figures from November 2008.

You can view a monthly and quarterly chart of the state's gasoline and diesel consumption here.
